Katharine Mitropoulos has completed more than 50 author visits across Michigan, engaging over 5,000 students with interactive programs about storytelling, creativity, and the book making process.
Grades K-1: The Magic of Making Picture Books
Students will follow a story from the first idea to publication. They'll learn how authors and illustrators work together to bring stories to life through words and pictures. The presentation features an interactive read-aloud, audience participation, and a fun book-themed activity packet.
Grades 2-3: Meet the Book Makers
Go behind the scenes to meet the team behind every book. From authors and illustrators to editors, designers, printers, and more, students will learn how collaboration and creativity transform a story from an idea into a finished book. The presentation features interactive discussion, audience participation, and a read-aloud.
Grades 4-5: The Business of Books
Take an inside look at the business of publishing, from building a brand and marketing books to reaching new readers. Through interactive discussion and real-world examples, students will follow the journey from a simple idea to a published book while exploring the professionals, collaboration, and challenges involved along the way.
